TA Application Process

Step 1: Complete and submit your Application by Friday, March 6th at 5:00pm (The priority consideration deadline for returning students/TAs is Friday, February 21st at 5:00pm)

  • The application includes:
    1. an essay (100 word minimum).

      New Applicants: Write about why you want to work for and study in the Math Corps and why you should be chosen.

      Returning applicants: Write about how your experience as a TA has impacted you and influenced your decision to reapply.

      A word of advice: Take your time in writing your essay and proofread prior to submitting.

    2. your most recent report card. (Must show student's name, school's name, GPA, all courses/grades, and attendance.)

    NOTE: If your math grade is below a “B-”, you must also include a recommendation from a teacher, administrator, or counselor with your application.

Step 2: Schedule and take the TA Diagnostic Exam on one of the dates below.

  • *On Feb 8th, 15th and 22nd, applicants can come ANYTIME between 10:00 and 2:00pm to complete their Diagnostic Exam.

    You CAN take the Diagnostic prior to applying, however your application MUST be completed by the deadline (March 1st) in order to be considered for an interview. Applications are considered incomplete until the Diagnostic is taken.

    The Diagnostic Exam covers the Math Corps 7th grade, 8th grade and basic algebra curriculum. Applicants are given 1- hour to complete the exam.

    TAs serve as mentors and math tutors to middle school students. As such, the Diagnostic Exam is an extremely important part of the application process and should be taken seriously. Studying is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Step 3: Applicant Interview (March 2 - March 30)

    Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted via email with instructions for how to schedule your interview.

    IMPORTANT: TA candidates are evaluated on their application, report card, essay and diagnostic exam score in order to be selected for an interview. TAs who are hired receive a $50 bonus for a Diagnostic score of 80% or more.

Step 4: TA Selection and Notification

    All applicants will be contacted via email by Friday, April 10 with hiring selections.

    TAs are paid stipends ranging from $500 - $800. The rate of pay depends on the student's previous work, if any, in the Math Corps and his/her level of accomplishment in mathematics.
